Jean Doyon, the first ancestor of the Doyons of America, is originally from this region.<\/span><\/p>\n All of the Doyons of America descend from Jean Doyon, son of Jacques Doyon and Fran\u00e7oise Couturier (or Cousturier). Jean was born in 1619 in P\u00e9rigny, France, in the former region of Poitou-Charentes, which included the former province of Aunis.\u00a0 La Rochelle is the historical capital of Aunis.<\/span><\/p>\n Jean arrived in Canada in 1644, where he was a land clearing and lumbering man. In 1650, he married Marthe Gagnon, natural daughter of Mathurin Gagnon and Vincente Gauthier. In 1652, he settled in Ch\u00e2teau-Richer and became a farmer.<\/span><\/p>\n From their union were born two girls and four boys: in order, Marie, Nicolas, Antoine, Madeleine, Louis and Thomas.
